I figured this would be suitable for Halloween, as the shortwave ciphers are rather creepy and haunting to listen to:

My favorite is the first on the list, the Swedish Rhapsody cipher.

Sadly, the Lincolnshire Poacher and sister station Cherry Ripe stopped broadcasting a few months ago.  Never again on my SW radio will I hear those eerie computerized voices or music. :'(

Welcome to the forums! :) I've never listened to the encrypted stations on a shortwave radio myself, I've just listened to recordings. I did have a ham radio license for a while though, but it wasn't very useful as I had trouble understanding the voices I heard.

I always wanted to get a ham operator's license, but never really knew how to go about doing it.  :-[  Shortwave receivers are much easier to purchase!

Getting a ham license wasn't too bad actually, all I had to do was read the manual and take a written test. The hard part is remembering the protocols for talking to other ham operators and which frequencies to avoid.
