|It is 2040. A few young siblings are in a house with an attached laboratory playing video games while it rains outside. At one point they get bored and walk around, and they notice some strange anomalies. Some of the scientific displays occasionally flicker in and out of existence, as if they are remembering things that are no longer there. One sibling absent-mindedly picks at a loose piece of wallpaper and discovers... a note?
The note is dated 2020, with some kind of warning that says "write down what you can... they are watching". They carefully check for cameras and block any, then peel back more of the wallpaper to find a lot of small notes, some dating back to 1996. Simple entries detailing the events of a given day, and a warning to be careful. At the center, they find a news article with a picture of a family from 1990, with the headline "fatal electrical accident takes life of mother and three kids". They boggled at the likeness between themselves and the kids in the photo. Carefully sealing the wallpaper back up, they unblock the camera and look around the laboratory to see if they can find out more.
They continue to see the occasional equipment glitch in and out, and wonder if they are in some kind of time stasis field. After a careful examination of the lab, they manage to find their father's journals. The first one is filled with schematics of cyborgs, and the last journal has this entry: "They have discovered the truth again... I am not sure how much longer the mind resets will work. I don't want them to abandon me."
The siblings realized that the glitched objects they kept seeing were items from the past, now long gone but still embedded in their memories. And on this very rare occasion, their father was away for a science conference with no caretakers in sight. A tough choice lay ahead...
